First, I want to say I am sorry for being more quiet than usual with my blog. It has been one of busiest times I recall. Yes, you guessed it. Microsoft Copilot has been keeping me busy with customers. While that is of course a good thing (I am a consultant, after all, and do work with customers) the side effect has been that combining busy times with some of the community events has forced me to think also about family and my wellness. This mean I needed to push blog down a couple of notches in the priority list and just accept that I can’t be writing in the pace I used to. I managed to write some posts during my travels, so it wasn’t a total silence – of which I am happy.

Microsoft 365 Community Conference

Microsoft 365 Community Conference 2024 at Orlando, Florida was a great experience. Having three new sessions there – one for each day – was extremely rewarding and very stressful at the same time. Instead of having the normal “I do my session and then I can relax” it was fast paced as when one session was over, preparations for the next one continued. Of course most of the work was done before the conference, but there was still demos and some updates to make sure the experience was the best possible. I had two sessions with my good friend Adam Deltinger and one I did solo.

I was really happy about the outcome as there was a lot of people in the room in all sessions, and in fact during the Microsoft Loop session we did there wasn’t enough seats for people as some were standing next to walls and doors. As a speaker, it is a rewarding to feel the positive vibe that resonated from attendees. So, despite the stress of doing three sessions it was definitely something I will do again. In fact already next week at HPR365 in Finland I have my own full session and I am also in the event opening & closing sessions. It will be fun!

Why all this M365 Conference in this blog post? Because Adam and I got an opportunity to do an interview with two members from the Microsoft Mesh Product Group leadership! During the last conference day, we got ourselves a podcast area and recorded a video interview with Navjot Virk and Carlos Aguilar .
Special Interview with Mesh Product Group

Just to introduce them to you, Navjot Virk is the Vice President of Mesh Product and Design and Carlos Aguilar is Vice President in Microsoft Mesh Engineering.
Of course the topic of this relaxed interview was Microsoft Mesh considering the Hybrid era and Future Work. And as you can guess, there was talk about AI and Microsoft Copilot and of course Metaverse One 2024, which is on September 18th this year!
Just a bit of tech about the video. I recorded it with Logitech Brio 705 for Business (video), Jabra Speak2 75 (audio) and OBS. Afterwards I only cut off heads and tails of recording and uploaded it to Microsoft Stream in my tenant. In the Stream I used it’s capability to generate transcript, and then fixed terms and mistakes there were on names etc. Generating transcript has great quality, but it is not perfect. It was relatively quick to go through and fix. Did you know you can edit transcript in the Stream directly? The final steps were just to export the transcript and upload it to Filmora 13, where I do a lot of video editing (Clipchamp is good, but Filmora is better suited for Metaverse One and Teams Nation style videos), along with the recording. After that, it was just putting the subtitles on and exporting the video.
As the video is in Microsoft Stream, it was super-easy to include summary of the interview using Copilot in Stream.
Key Interview Topics Summarized by Microsoft Copilot:
- Microsoft Mesh introduction and use cases: Navjot and Carlos explained the vision and benefits of Microsoft Mesh, a platform for immersive 3D collaboration and co-presence, and how they use it internally for team meetings, events, trainings, and celebrations.
- Microsoft Mesh at M365 Community Conference: Navjot and Carlos shared their positive experience of showcasing Microsoft Mesh at the conference booth and the lightning talks, and the high level of interest and feedback from the attendees.
- Microsoft Mesh immersive spaces and customization: Navjot and Carlos discussed the current limitations and future plans for scaling up the number of attendees in immersive spaces, integrating custom spaces into Teams meetings, and making it easier for users to create and customize their avatars and environments.
- Microsoft Mesh and AI Copilot: Navjot and Carlos explored the potential of using AI Copilot to enhance the immersive experiences, such as helping users with avatar creation, environment creation, meeting recall, notes, tasks, and interactive learning scenarios.
- Metaverse One 2024 event: Navjot and Carlos expressed their excitement and support for the upcoming Metaverse One 2024 event, and promised to have some presence and share more innovations from Microsoft Mesh.
Yes, you read it right! We will see Microsoft Mesh Product Group in Metaverse One 2024 and they will share more innovations regarding Microsoft Mesh at the event!
I have to say, the current Microsoft Stream is worth checking out if you have been evading it! You can Trim video, add Forms and Callouts, edit Transcript and of course use the Copilot there! Just to name a few highlights.
